What's sadder...this tiny gaggle of men that passed for a supporters group or the damn-near silent death of 1st year USL side California Victory? I slept on this bit of news last week as I was gearing up for a Turkey-induced coma, but thought it was still worth putting out there.
Like the Toronto Lynx, their lunch was eaten the day that MLS announced it was coming to the area. This leaves USL 1 with only 11 clubs for 2008, and with Seattle leaving in 09 for MLS may be a serious blow for the league that already lost one club (Virginia Beach) at the beginning of 07. Hopefully the talk of an expansion club in Victoria, BC and one other city will come to fruition and keep this boat afloat.

This totally sucks. They were teh definition of what grassroots with big bucks should look like. They were well planted and had a decent following considering that they were new to the US and the league. I was looknig forward to finally seeing something interesting at Seal Stadium in Golden Gate Park after hearing tons of stories from my father about seeing Baseball games and football there when he was a kid.
As far as them being short in USL1 I can pretty much tell you how that's going to get fixed over the course of the next two years. This is pure speculation, but it'w well founded. Crystal Palace USA will move up and that makes sense based on they money they're spending on players and what their direction and goals are here. THe following year when Seattle leaves USL and the MLS franchise is established I would think that West Ham's Florida prune connection will be ready to jump in.
USL2 slots can be easily replaced with PDL teams. I'm sure that by now there's more than one interested in getting promoted.
Doesn't Fresno Fuego want to move up to the USL-1?
They would do fine competively, but financially, I'm not sure.
Totally agree with cousinbinksta
Good times stumbling through Golden Gate Park to get to those games. I'm really going to miss that next year.
